Mandates of Division

Survey and Data Processing Division:

Establish National Statistics Standards (Questionnaire flow, sampling methodology & data analysis);
Carry out National Survey and Census;
Provide Survey/census clearance to line agencies;
Ensure adherence to the National Statistical Standards and products;
Technical backstopping to line agencies (planning, questionnaire design & Sampling methodology &            data processing);
Prepare geographic information (Plan, coordinate, and administer all geographic and cartographic              activities needed to facilitate the statistical programs in the country);
Store/maintain/digitize boundaries of Enumeration Area;
Recruit and train enumerators on the manual of survey/Census;
Carry out data processing (data validation, data entry & data cleaning); and
Carry out data analysis (tabulation).

Social Statistics Division:

Plan, prepare and conduct Population and Housing Census;
Provide technical capacity on social statistics (health, education, women and children, labour, crime,          living standards & poverty etc…);
Plan and lead the listing and mapping of enumeration areas (PHC);
Build and regular update of demographic database;
Tabulate Population and census data;
Plan, prepare and conduct mid decadal census;
Prepare estimates and projections of the population both at national and sub-national level;
Publish periodic reports on the fertility levels & trends and migration trends;
Publish annual reports on vital statistics – births, deaths and marriages;
Prepare, plan and execute Bhutan Living Standard Survey (every 5 years);
Prepare and publish BLSS Report;
Publish Poverty Analysis Report;
Publish Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index Report;
Prepare, plan and execute Annual Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES);
Prepare and publish annual FIES Report;
Prepare, plan and execute annual LFS (provided it is conducted by the NSB);
Prepare and publish annual LFS Report;
Prepare, plan and execute RNR Census (provided it is conducted by the NSB); and
Prepare and publish RNR Report.

Economic and Environmental Statistics Division:

Publish the monthly national Consumer Price Index;
Publish quarterly Producer Price Index;
Publish the Construction Material Index;
Publish International Comparison Price (ICP) data for the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) ;
Publish Export Import Index;
Publish the annual National Accounts Statistics;
Prepare quarterly Gross Domestic Product Estimates;
Publish Supply and Use Table;
Conduct Economic Census of Bhutan;
Develop Environmental Accounts for Bhutan;
Publish the Environmental Statistics; and
Develop Business Register for Bhutan.

Coordination, Information and Research Division:

•     Develop and maintain statistical information system – data repository (one stop shop for statistical               information 
•      Improve storage, accessibility and dissemination of statistics;
•      Familiarize statistical literacy and promotion of various strategic initiatives for the dissemination of               statistical information;
•      Communications and governance related to statistical personnel (Statistical management practices,            process, service standards);
•      Review the existing Parenting framework and implement;
•      Establish institutional linkages with international statistical bodies for further strengthening
       the statistical system;
•      Compile and publish Statistical Yearbook, Annual Dzongkhag Statistics, Socio-economic indicator,              Gewog level database, Bhutan/Dzongkhag/Gewog at A Glance, Quarterly SDMX NSDP;
•      Provide data to the National and International Agencies;
•      Prepare System of Designated Statistics of Bhutan;
•      Coordinate and facilitate provision of technical assistance to other agencies in collaboration with line           Divisions;
•      Facilitate and provide technical expertise to other agencies on research methodology;
•      Research inputs on survey methods, variables in keeping with national needs and international best           practices;
•      Explore innovative ways/tools to carry out methods of data collection;
•      Provide research inputs in producing quality statistics;
•      Build research capability in line agencies;
•      Conduct workshops and training for statistical personnel from time to time in order to keep abreast of         statistical techniques and other developments;
•      Develop national statistical calendar/Advance Release Calendar;
•      Leverage on GPMS amd MAX tp push for data demand and strengthen overall statistical system
•      Conduct Statistical Conference; and
•      Design layout of reports and publication.
