Training on CPI Mobile Data Collection

Under the auspices of the World Bank (WB), price section of the National Statistics Bureau (NSB) in collaboration with Athang Training Academy (ATA) has developed mobile phone application software where data can be entered and transferred using Mobile phone. In the era of ICT, NSB has delved one step further into making the data readily available for data compilers. This would not only benefit the office but would immensely benefit the end users since reports can be released on time. .

In order to tutor the use of application appropriately by the District Statistical Officers (DSO), NSB with funding from the WB has initiated 4 days training on use of Mobile phones at ATA. The training encompassed outlet selection in respective Dzongkhags, product matching to the outlet specified and hands on training on price collection and use of the phone.

The training began with inaugural remarks by the Director General of NSB. He stressed on the importance of developing such software and its benefits in the age of ICT. Andy Katakoula of the WB also remarked and commended the work of NSB and mentioned that such development is first of its kind in present times. He also said that with successful implementation of the program, such initiatives will be replicated in other parts of the world. His presentation was followed by presentation from price section of NSB and ATA. With such initiative, NSB hope to make data more reliable and timely for evidence based policy formulation.
